Wings of Grace

The Wings of Grace Center hours of operation

Thursday and Friday
10:00 AM - 4:30 PM

It is hard to describe the emotions we have experienced assisting the tornado victims. We are filled with reverent wonder as we contemplate all the events and times the Lord has provided supplies and workers when needed. We are humbled by the grant requests that enable us to be obedient to God's call to be His servants during this time of need. I will say that in the early months of the disaster, I experienced several phases. The first was horror mixed with pity. The second was compassion pure and simple, and the third, as awareness that these people were not pitiable or forlorn, but rather dear and delightful, as it might be, friend of long standing, brothers and sisters in Christ. We found that many were "empty" within. A strange painful growing vacuum persists in the depths of their person. Few know or realize it is a profound yearning for God himself. We are trying to fulfill this inner vacuum with kindness, friendship, laughter, goodness, love, prayer, and assistance in basic daily needs and supplies. They are anticipated eagerly, awaited with acute expectancy, and relished with enthusiasm. We know that underneath their loss are secret hurts and failures, hidden burdens and defeats. Genuine love is a gift we give others, not purchased by their own actions or contingent upon our emotions at the moment. Love may carry with it strong emotional feeling, but it isn't supported by them. Rather, just as Christ commands, love is making a decision that someone is special and valuable to us.

The Wings of Grace Center has cherished and embraced close to our hearts Hebrews 6:10. "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them." The Psalmist says, "May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us, yes- establish the work of our hands (Psalm 90:17).

We need everyone's prayers as we continue to serve daily and humble ourselves to be servants of God so that we may learn to live always, not for this life only, but with "eternity's " values in view. I am so blessed to have the wonderful dedicated volunteers that give freely of their time and hearts to serve others. We are assisting over 1500 families and have given over 1500 Bibles to date. We have provided food gift cards, toys and clothing gift cards and furniture grant monies to help several hundred tornado victims. Clients are traveling from Eutaw, Green County, Hale, Reform, Moundville, Samantha, Boligee, and surrounding areas for assistance. We are so grateful for the embracing hearts of people in our City that continue to provide and supply our needs. In giving we are simply reflecting God's image--He who gave everything.
